Annpurna Aarti (अन्नपूर्णा आरती): The word “anna” in Sanskrit means grain or food and “purna” means to be complete together the term Annpurna signifies nourishing with food to the fullest. The Goddess symbols are corn and grain. The ear of grain also refers to spiritual maturity. The seed planted in the darkness of the ground grows up towards the Sun until it ripens in maturity.

In Hinduism, Annapurna  is “the universal and timeless kitchen-goddess”  the mother who feeds. Without her there is starvation, a universal fear: This makes Maa Annpurna a universal goddess. Her most popular shrine is located in Varanasi, on the banks of the river “Ganga”. Her association with the giving of food (wealth) led her in time to be transformed into Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth.

She is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati; the wife of Shiva. Annpurna Maa has two hands.  She holds a bowl in one hand and a spoon in another. She sits on a lotus throne. She was often seen giving food to Lord Shiva.  For Hindus she is a protecting deity. blessed her devotees with abundance of food and other worldly   possessions of this word. It is believed that by worshipping this goddess one will never be out of food anytime in life.

Food is one of the basic necessities of life, and it is no wonder that we say ‘Annam Brahma’, food is God and the body is ‘annamayakosha’. In Hinduism, eating is a holy ritual. it is a yajna, a sacrifice. Food should not be eaten during moments of anxiety or emotional upheaval. It is considered a medicine for the illness of hunger and for sustenance of life. Grabbing and eating food in an undisciplined manner is a mark of disrespect to the Source.

जो नहीं ध्यावै तुम्हें अम्बिके, कहां उसे विश्राम।
अन्नपूर्णा देवी नाम तिहारो, लेत होत सब काम॥

प्रलय युगान्तर और जन्मान्तर, कालान्तर तक नाम।
सुर सुरों की रचना करती, कहाँ कृष्ण कहाँ राम॥
